What
configuration is needed on each Client machine?
|

|
Virtually none! Most configuration can be controlled from
the Server using Microsoft's tools - eg DHCP Manager and User Manager etc.

How do I
add another client machine to the network?
|

|

Just connect the client's Ethernet 10BaseT
connector to the network using a Cat 5 network cable and then all that is needed is to
take note of the MAC address of the client's Ethernet card and to enter that into the DHCP
configuration on the server to configure its IP address.

How do I
configure IP addresses?
|

|
Log onto the Server as Administrator, and using DHCP
Manager (inside Administrative Tools from the Start Menu/Programs), select Scope|Add
Reservations menu option and enter the Ethernet MAC address of the Client machine. For
more detail, see the Installation Instructions provided with your copy of Topcat or a copy
on this Web site: Topcat Installation Guide.

How do I add
user accounts?
|

|
The tools provided with Windows NT Server provide
for the management of user accounts. As Administrator, or other user with Administrator
rights, use the User Manager for Domains from the Start|Programs|Administrative Tools
menu. See the On-line help provided with Windows NT for further information.

Can I
add multiple users automatically?
|

|
No, currently there are no built-in facilities in
Windows NT to automate this process. However, there is an add-in utility called 'User
Wizard' (on the Windows NT CD-ROM), which helps the process, but no built-in fully
automatic method is available. There may be third-party utilities for this - try searching
the various software archives.

How
many characters are allowed in the username?
|

|
Whilst Windows NT allows usernames of 1 to 20 characters, when used with Topcat, the
maximum username length is 14 characters.

How can
security issues be handled?
|

|
This is a complex subject and a great deal of
attention needs to be given to this topic. A range of tools are provided in Windows NT
Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, including the Zero Administration Kit and the
Integrated Security Configuration Tool. The application of
appropriate permissions on the NTFS filing system, especially sensitive system
areas, and the use of System Policies will help to make the system secure from
tampering.
Other options include encryption between server and
clients, encrypted passwords, limited number of logon attempts, limit connection time and
the ability to manage user security by groups of users. For further information see the
Microsoft web site http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/.

How
can users change their passwords?
|

|
Users can change their own passwords from either the RISC OS desktop or from
a Windows session, provided they have been granted the ability to do so in User
Manager for Domains. The procedure is described in the appropriate
paragraph below:
 | From RISC OS |
Use the !LMPasswd application. (This is located in
the Armboot.Omni folder, which is normally hidden from
users. Administrators may wish to make this available to ordinary
users by copying the application to the Armboot.Apps folder, or to the Server.Network
folder.)
 | From Windows |
Click on Start, choose Windows NT Security... then click on
the Change Password... button.

Acorn CD ROMs?
