What is Thin-Client/Server Computing?

btnTopPage.gif (1133 bytes)

Thin-client/server computing is an architecture in which applications and data are deployed, managed, supported and executed entirely on the server – without the need to download the application or data to the client. This improves performance and makes effective and efficient use of network bandwidth. Further information can be found at the following site: Citrix Web site - ICA FAQ.

What does ICA stand for?

btnTopPage.gif (1133 bytes)

ICA stands for Independent Computing Architecture and is a registered trademark of Citrix Inc. It allows many different types of computer, running different operating systems to access applications running on Microsoft’s Windows operating system. It is an emerging industry standard for thin-client/server computing. On the server, ICA separates application logic from the user interface and executes 100% of the application on the server. The ICA network protocol transports keystrokes, mouse clicks and screen updates over standard protocols to the client, consuming less than 20 kilobits per second of network bandwidth.
